Wedding Flowers
Some
brides like the idea of putting their own wedding flowers together, I have added
below some helpful hints and suggestions:
Check on the
internet or at a local florist shop for your ideal flower
Find a flower
wholesaler or flower shop where you will be able to purchase your flowers,
always order more than you think
you need in case some blooms are marked or broken
when you get them
Confirm that
the type of flower will be available (seasonal availability) on the day of your
wedding
Confirm that
the colours are also available (some flowers have different colours at different
times of the year)
Place your
order early with the flower wholesaler
Pick up your
flowers 1 to 2 days before the wedding day (some flowers e.g. lilies need time to
open up) keep roses and other delicate flowers in a cool room
Purchase silk
ribbon in your colour theme to complete the design
If you are
doing buttonholes or corsages you will require green florist tape, florist wire
and pearl pins to complete the design
Buttonholes and corsages should be done on the morning of the wedding day.
Spray with a
'keep flowers fresh out of water' spray
Don't attempt
to do a traditional trailing bouquet the day before the wedding, practice it a
couple of weeks before the wedding day, these can be tricky
Round hand
held posies are the easiest to do if it's your first attempt
Posies should
be put together the night before the wedding
Remember that
all flowers don't go together well, bear in mind the florist rule of size and
proportion
Good luck with
your flowers, just remember it's not always worth the worry to do this yourself.
Is it really what you want to do the night before your big day, especially if
you have just had your nails done!!
Remember the
lasting reminder will be your photos, you do want to be holding flowers that
compliment your theme?? Just because a friend or family member did a floral art
course it doesn't make her a florist
Best of luck for your big day.
